Building Electric Car Steps

Lets get started. Before you can start you will need a schematic of the whole high voltage operation for reference.

Step 1:

A complete diagram of the circuitry needs to be designed before you start working. There is a Simple High Voltage Schematic on this link, and links to the shop section for parts needed. You can purchase or use as a reference.

Step 2:

Buy a cheap car to be converted. This don’t need to be very fancy, just something that rolls.

The lighter the better. Look for some car or truck with a manual transmission and is roomy enough,

As the batteries take up a lot of space. Make sure the transmission is fully functional.

Once you get it home you’re going to work on it.

These things need to be stripped out….

     – Engine

     – Exhaust system

     – Starter

     – Gas tank and lines

     – coolant reservoir

     – Radiator

Step 3:

Get a Motor. At the heart of every electric car sits a good motor. Whether you buy new, secondhand or a forklift motor it’s up to you depending on your budget.

Step 4:

Decide upon maximum electrical voltage output for the motor.

There are several options, marine deep cycle lead acid batteries and high output sealed batteries. There are more

types like depending on the kind of electrolyte they use. The flooded , absorbed glass mat (AGM) or gelled batteries.

The flooded are the cheapest but also come with low power output. Do your math and buy the number of batteries needed for you range you so require.

Getting all your needed components main one needed for now

   – contactor

   – pot box

   – KSI relay

   – motor controller

   – fuses and fuse blocks

   – key switch

Other parts will be needed as your project progresses ….all parts needed should be in the shop section

Step 5:

Install the motor. Use an adapter plate to connect the electric motor and transmission, after this you’ll use a coupler to transfer the rotary power of your electric motor to the transmission.

Then mount controller and batteries

Begin wiring the installed components

Step 6:

Testing phase, test the operation of the components installed. If you manage to pull all these things off

Your ready to ride in your own electric car!
